The Descendents of James O'Brien and Katherine Kane
Cornamuckla, Co Leitrim, Ireland
James O'Brien was the son of Thomas O'Brien and Mary (O'Farrell) O'Brien. He was the brother of my great grandfather Patrick Farrell O'Brien who emigrated to Rhode Island, USA in 1874.
James remained on the family farm in Ireland. His siblings all emigrated to America, as did many of his children.
He was born in Cornamucklagh, Co Leitrim on  March 15,1848 and was baptized on March 22,1848 in St. Joseph's Church in Aughavas. His baptism sponsors were John Grey and Judith Jordan. James was born during the time of the Great Famine. His grandfather Francis died in 1847, one year before his birth. He was one of seven children, five boys and two girls. His brothers were Patrick, Thomas,William and Francis. Susan and Bridget were his sisters.
James became a farmer following in the footsteps of his ancestors. He married Katherine Kane about 1880. They raised a large family of eight children, three boys, Patrick, James and Thomas and five girls, Katheryn, Rose, Maryann, Bridget and Ellen. His wife died at the age of 38 in 1898. James' widowed mother lived with him and helped to manage the busy household.
Six of his children emigrated to America. Maryann and Patrick remained in Ireland. Patrick became the next generation to farm the lands of his ancestors. Maryann married Patrick Caffrey from Abbeylara, Co Longford.

James O'Brien married Annie McNicholls and moved to England. He was a newspaper reporter there. During WWII they were bombed out of their home and moved to Scotland. They had one son, Jimmie who lived in Wales.

Ellen O'Brien emigrated to New York where she lived with her sister Bridget.
She died after being in America only one year.

Mary Ann O'Brien was born in 1883. She remained in Ireland and married  Patrick Caffrey of Abbeylara, Co Longford. Patrick died young, leaving Maryann with five children, Paddy, Barney, Jimmie, Kathleen and Mary Jo.



Thomas O'Brien and Lucy Corrigal
Thomas O'Brien, son of James, was born in Co Leitrim in 1885. He emigrated to Oregon before 1907. On the 1910 census he was working out on the range as a sheepman.Tom married Lucy Corrigal, the daughter of Malcolm Corrigal, a prominent rancher in Morrow Co, Oregon. They married about 1917. By 1920, the Tom and Lucy were listed in the Alpine area of Morrow Co in Oregon.  They were living with her family. Thomas was 33 and Lucy was 28. They had two small children, Isabelle and James. The next census was taken in 1930. The O'Brien family was living in the Lena area of Morrow Co, Oregon. Thomas was 44, his place of birth was listed as the Irish Free State. His occupation was stockman. Lucy was 39, born in Oregon. They had 6 children. Four of the children were in school. Isabella was 12, James 11, Malcolm 9, Gordon 7, Patrick 6 and Katheryn was nine months old. Tom and Lucy lived the remainder of their lives in Oregon.

Katheryn O'Brien was the twin sister of Patrick O'Brien. They were born in 1890 in Cornamucklagh gh , Co Leitrim. Her mother died when she was 8 years old. Katheryn emigrated to New York City at the age of 16 in 1909 to live with her Aunt Bridget (O'Brien) Sanford. Bridget had no children of her own. She was married to a lawyer who later became a judge. They were well-off and able to care for their young neice. In those days, matchmakers arranged quality marriages for young Irish men and women. Margaret Farley was a matchmaker. Patrick Campbell ,a native of Co Longford, Ireland emigrated to Oregon in 1904 at the age of 21. He was  a young rancher from Oregon who came east to New York to seek a bride. It was there he was introduced to young Katheryn. He courted her, and eventually they married on April 18,1918 in St. Stephen's Church. The young couple traveled west to his home in Oregon, and there they raised a family of eight children, three girls and five boys. On the 1920 Census they lived in the community of Lone Rock , Gilliam Co, Oregon. Patrick. a farmer, owned a stock farm. He was 37, and had been naturalized in 1915. Katheryn was 28, and the mother of Patricia, a few months old.  There were two ranch hands living with them, Michael and Peter Campbell. On the 1930 Census, they were living in the same place, Patrick was 48. He was the owner of a sheep ranch. Katheryn was 38, the mother of 7, Patricia A. 10, John A. 9, James O'B 8, Peter O. 6, Thomas M. 4, Martha M. 3 and Malachie K. 9 months. Their daughter Katheryn was born in 1931.
Katheryn died in 1949 at the age of 59. Patrick died in 1963.

Heppner, Oregon
 - James O'Brien "Jimmy" Campbell, long-time Lonerock cattle rancher, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, ten minutes short
of his 87th birthday, at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Heppner.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2 at St. John Catholic Church in Condon
with concluding service and burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Recitation of the rosary will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2 at St. John Catholic Church.

Mr. Campbell was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Condon to Irish immigrants Patrick and Kathryn O'Brien Campbell.
He went to elementary school at Lonerock and graduated from Condon High School in 1940.
He then attended Oregon State College for two years, majoring in electrical engineering.
He returned to the family ranch in Lonerock, where he was active in the cattle business until he moved to Bend.

He suffered a serious stroke in 2005 and, after his rehab, made his home at the Harmony House Care Facility in Bend.
 Two weeks ago he returned to the area and was living at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Heppner.

Mr. Campbell is survived by brothers Tom Campbell of Kimberly and Malachi (Mac) Campbell of Hermiston,
and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Patricia Campbell, Martha Baily and Kathryn Van Schoiack;
and brothers John Campbell and Peter Campbell.

Pat O'Brien
    Patrick O'Brien was born in Cornamucklagh, Co Leitrim in 1890.
He was the son who continued to work the O'Brien ancestral farm.

Bridget O'Brien
Bridget was born in Cornamucklagh, Co Leitrim in 1892.
She emigrated to New York where she studied nursing.
Bessie married Louis Bianchi.
Louis and Bessie lived in Atlantic City, NJ for a short time before moving to Florida.
They had no children.

Rose O'Brien was born in Cornamucklagh, Co Leitrim, Ireland on July 10, 1894. She married John Mitchell who was born on June 29,1888 in January of 1918. They married in Ireland. Three children, two sons and a daughter were born to them while they lived in Ireland. William Joseph  was born on November 3, 1918, Kathleen Mary was born March 24, 1923 and James Francis was born August 16, 1920. John and Rose sold their farm to a cousin in 1925, and moved to Oregon, via Canada in 1926. By 1927 they were in Heppner, Oregon. While there Margaret Theresa was born on January 9, 1927. The family moved to San Francisco, California in September of 1939, and settled in Walnut Creek.

Rose and John's daughter Margaret Theresa married Arthur William Prindle on June 20, 1953 in San Francisco. Arthur was the great grandson of Samuel Linus Prindle who arrived in San Francisco during the great Gold Rush of 1849. Sam never made a great fortune in gold mining. He did, however, write a diary which is published in the book "The Romance of Mokelumne Hill" by Eve Starcevich Zumwalt (1990 Pioneer Publishing Co.). He did go on to help develop one of the first water companies in California and went into local politics becoming a Superivsor in Calaveras Co.
Margaret and Arthur settled in Walnut Creek and had three sons, Philip Arthur born June 23,1954, Brian Edward, born June 18,1955 and John William born January 30,1962.
