William George Dyer

William was born on May 13, 1859 in Johnstown, New York. He was the son of Mary Miner Harrington and

Louis C. Dyer, both immigrants from Quebec, Canada. The family spoke French as well as English. William was married ane widowed before his marriage to Annie McKenzie Harrington, also from Canada. She was born in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia of English and Swiss parentage. Annie and her sister Carrie emigrated to New England in 1885. They came to North Attleboro,MA. It was there that she met William Dyer,a carpenter like her father.

They crossed the border into Rhode Island to marry on June 23, 1887. Annie was only seventeen and William was twenty six when they were wed at Arnold's Mills in Cumberland.

Ethel, the first of their twelve children, was born in Arnold's Mills on October 18, 1889. William was working as a farmer.

By December of 1890, the family had moved to Massachusetts. Their first son, Chauncy Stewart was born. Between 1892 and 1899, Russell, Ivy, Lilly and Gladys joined the growing family. They were living in Attleboro at 21 Hazel Street and William was working as a laborer.

In 1900, the federal census was taken. Annie, age twenty nine was the mother of six children, three in school. William was working as a laborer. At the time of the next census in 1910, they lived on Oak Hill Avenue near Briggs Corners. The Dyers had added four more children, William, Clifford, Grace and Raymond. They were living in the town of Plainville in Norfolk County, MA, on 272 Cross Street. Their three oldest children were working in the jewelry industry. William was now a carpenter. He was fifty two and Annie was forty.

Their last two children were born between 1912 and 1915. Clarence, a son in 1912, and Dorothy Mary on November 18, 1915. They were both born in Plainville, MA. William was fifty seven and Annie forty six when Dorothy was born. They were living at 97 Park Street, near North Attleboro.

By 1918, the family moved to 266 Park Avenue. In 1932 they were at 2 South Street in Plainville, and in 1933 at 29 Pleasant Street in North Attleboro.

William died on December 15, 1936 in North Attleboro at the home of his son Russell at 9 Francis Street.

Annie, widowed for five years, died at the home of her son at 537 North Washington Street in North Attleboro on May 20, 1941. She was seventy one.

Both Annie and William are buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, North Attleboro, MA.
